The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate scary movies: Settle in with your partner and watch Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like standard physical horror, but within Together exists a intense meditation about how we choose to love each other.

A Directorial Debut Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the two stars bring a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A familiar story element, sure, but that’s largely where the conventions end. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence starts to affect the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a methodically building fright fest, blending bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director skillfully blends these components expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his support system. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

The couple confront the sort of issues that come with most partnerships after ten years. At their core, they still love each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of codependency and giving oneself over to a partner, the allegory never feels clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could act as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the ending plant anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your partner and state, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can experience today.
