Minister States MoD Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defence minister has stated that the MoD is currently looking into the potential threats posed by Chinese vehicles, and staff have been advised to refrain from discussing classified matters in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

In a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister explained that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any car, due to the growing risks of eavesdropping that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone worried about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

The broader security environment underscores the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of official activities, including transport usage to discussions practices.
