Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
